Asarum canadense 'Eco Choice' - Don Jacobs of Eco Gardens made this selection of Canada Wild Ginger. This terrific woodland ground cover grows more densely and a bit more compactly than the straight species with 2 to 4 inch rounded, rounded to heart-shaped, semi-glossy green leaves sporting a light fuzz. When bruised they smell of the well-known culinary ginger. Dark maroon 3-petaled ("petaled") spring flowers are like curious deep sea creatures emerging at the floor of the coral reef as they do from the base of the stems at or just above ground level. Besides Canada or Canadian Wild Ginger Asarum canadense hosts an array of common monikers; among them are Heart Snakeroot, Indian Ginger, Woodland Ginger, Ginger Root, Asarabaca, Catfoot and Ginger Root. Oi! I'm dizzy and confused. With any given name 'Eco Choice' is a fine selection from an American master. Thank you again, Don. We miss you. Site in dappled to open shade planted in fertile soil. Deer resistant. Pot grown division.
