Vaccinium angustifolium

Lowbush Blueberry

Plant Type:

DECIDUOUS SHRUBS

Vaccinium angustifolium Good, old-fashioned Lowbush Blueberry. White spring urns give way to clusters of deep, dark blue sweet fruits. Lustrous small tongues of medium green leaves turn bronze to red-bronze in autumn. I have fond remembrance of picking and relishing the berries atop some of the mountains when hiking in the Adirondacks. But not only people love the blueberries; so do small mammals, birds and even box turtles. Unlike their bigger, taller Highbush Blueberry cousins Vaccinium angustifolium shrubs are self-pollinating having hermaphroditic flowers on a single shrub. Average to fertile draining soil on the acid side of the Ph spectrum in lots of sun. At the northern end of the range winter snows are protective implying that your plants may want some blanket of protection where snows are less certain. Full pots.
