We've known this terrific, attractive butterfly plant as Swamp Milkweed. It's a magnet for all kinds of butterflies including Monarchs and their caterpillars. Also going by other names such as Rose Milkweed, Swamp Silkweed and White Indian Hemp it loves damp sites in full sun where it is a low maintenance perennial great for attracting bees, too. It may be planted pseudo-marginally adjacent to a pond but not at water's edge; too wet and it will not thrive. It is native to all of North America except in the far west and curiously, Mississippi.
