Diervilla lonicera 'Copper' - This tough, easy shrub makes coppery to copper-red new leaves in full sun almost continually through the growing season. The color settles back to a bright semi-glossed green on a thick mounding shrub - virtually weed-proof. Summer flowers are a light, pretty yellow, borne terminally at branch tips and resemble honeysuckle flowers, hence its species moniker: lonicera. In fact, its common name is Dwarf Bush Honeysuckle. Flowers are in lovely contrast to the copper-red tone of the new leaves. Great as a filler shrub in tough sites because of its size and coppery color it is useful in many applications. Though we do not know the origins of 'Copper' Diervilla lonicera ranges from Newfoundland to Saskatchewan, south to Michigan and North Carolina. Fertile to average soil. Established potted shrbu, cutting grown.
