Ulmus parvifolia ‘Seiju’ – ​'Seiju' is similar to ‘Jacqueline Hillier’ in size and look. ‘Seiju’ does have a more corky bark which adds to winter interest. Twiggy branches hold handsome small elm leaves all through the growing season. ‘Seiju’ will likely not grow quite as large as the former. Both would work well in the larger rock garden, as a low hedge, as specimens in an Asian garden setting or companioned with other shrubs in the foundation. No significant fall color. Site ‘Seiju’ in full to half sun planted in fertile draining soil. For gardeners towards the northern end of its range spring planting is advised. Cutting grown.
