Sanguisorba officinalis 'Lemon Splash'

Burnet

Plant Type:

SUN PERENNIALS

Sanguisorba officinalis ‘Lemon Splash’ – It’s a mystery that ‘Lemon Splash’ is still relatively unknown. The foliage on this Burnet is striking. It is as if a mad artist dipped a brush in molten lemon rind then flicked the paint repeatedly at once green leaves. The speckles and splashes sparkle against a semi-glossed, dark green backdrop. The basal leaves are pinnate and large with as many as 25 oval, lightly scalloped leaflets. Leaf stems shorten as they approach the tips of main stalks. In late summer ‘Lemon Splash’ sports terminal clusters of rich blood red-maroon “hot dogs” approaching 1” long on short inflorescences. Though not significant the flowers are charming mixed with late season perennials providing good contrast – especially so in that so many of the late season flowers are composites such as Chrysanthemum ‘Venus’. ‘Lemon Splash’ is a tough, easy perennial in full to part sun planted in any good garden soil. Pot grown Division.
