Prunus x yedodensis 'Arctic Dawn'
Weeping Cherry
Plant Type:
QUACKIN' GRASS INTRODUCTIONSPrunus x yedoensis 'Arctic Dawn' - This is a slightly different twist on the good old-fashioned weeping ornamental cherry, 'Snow Fountain'... New leaves, as they emerge through spring and summer are gold and green variegated in irregular patterning. Often the new foliage is infused with a tint of pink to red-pink as well. The variegation soon metamorphoses to the usual green. It is subtle but quite beautiful when taking a moment to appreciate this difference. White flowers occur in great abundance in April on bare stems. The bark is beautiful, satin finish brown-purple replete with lenticels. Autumn leaves are a very nice gold to golden-orange and in some years fall in the redder end of the spectrum. As with 'Snow Fountain' this is a weeping form, just wonderful year round. We especially welcome its spreading, rounded weeping habit in the winter garden. These plants are on their own wood - not grafted. And, in that they exhibit a fairly strict cascading habit they will have to be staked for height. Cutting grown.
