Plant Type:

DECIDUOUS SHRUBS

Loropetalum chinense var. rubrum 'Zhuzhou Fuschia' - Deep, dark maroon-black lanceolate foliage cloaks this beautiful shrub all season long.Hot, bright candy pink flowers composed of thread-like petals heavily stud the shrub in late spring with some sporadic bloom through the summer glowering among the 2-inch leaves. Flowers are reminiscent of Witchhazel flowers. Best color in full sun planted in fertile, moisture retaining draining soil (no wet feet). A virtual evergreen in the south. Moderately fast growth rate. 'Zhuzhou Fuschia' would make a striking espalier, simply used as specimen or as a distinguishing accent embedded in a mixed hedgerow. This striking shrub would make a stunning potted plant in the north. It can be kept smaller with judicious pruning. Though 'Zhuzhou Fuschia' is one of the most cold hardy forms we, in northeastern Connecticut, are too far north - too bad. And in regards to that fact for gardeners towards the northern end of its range spring planting is advised.
