Knifophia sp.

Red Hot Poker

Plant Type:

SUN PERENNIALS

Knifophia sp. (ex: Barbara Lussier) - From the grassy gray-green foliage emerge flowering stems topped with large, vertical elongate-ovate spikes of orange and yellow torches glowing in late spring leading the charge into the hot summer season. We do not know with certainty if this is the straight species or a named cultivar of the common Torch Lily or Red Hot Poker, Knifophia uvaria because no one has yet been able to identify it for us. It has been bone hardy and perfectly perennial in USDA zone 5 in full blazing sun planted in our xeric garden whereas other cultivars have disappeared in our changeable winters in northeastern Connecticut. We do not know the origination of this divine perennial though we expect it is an heirloom. Established potted perennial by division.
