Panicle Hydrangea

Plant Type:

DECIDUOUS SHRUBS

Hydrangea paniculata 'Chantilly Lace' - Numerous large 8 to 10 inch lacy flowers open pure ivory white beginning in early summer. The cone-shaped inflorescences slowly become infused with pink and darken from rose to rosy red-purple. Persistent in fall they dry to brown and hang onto the shrub in winter. 'Chantilly Lace' is a smaller growing selection of Panicle Hydrangea or Pee Gee Hydrangea developed through the capable hands of Michael Dirr and Karen Bowman at the University of Georgia. It's a beautiful selection that has been hiding in the shadow of more touted cultivars... 'Chantilly Lace' is as worthy if not more so.

Genus Overview: Hydrangea paniculata

Common Name: Panicle Hydrangea

Hydrangea paniculata. The Panicle Hydrangea is an easy, tough shrub. Blooming on new wood in the mid/late season garden for many weeks on end it exhibits fair drought tolerance once it settles into the landscape. Large cone-shaped white flowers become infused with rose pink as they age. They will turn brown in autumn and as in the case of 'Nana' hang on through the winter for an extra season on interest. Site in full to half sun planted in any good garden soil that drains. All we sell are established shrubs from cuttings. All are a manageable size to easily get them settled into your landscape. The specie's native range is China and Japan.
