Fothergilla gardenii 'Blue Mist'
Fothergilla
Plant Type:
DECIDUOUS SHRUBSFothergilla gardenii ‘Blue Mist’ – 'Blue Mist' is a beautiful somewhat smaller growing form with glaucous blue to blue-green foliage on a slowly mounding and spreading framework. Showy squat fat white bottle-brush flowers in mid-spring just as the foliage is beginning to emerge adorn the stems like bright lanterns emitting a sweet fragrance. It is a most handsome, understated shrub in the summer garden. Confetti colors follow in autumn – gold, orange, red and in some years a touch of purple, too. Our plant is a beautiful dome-shaped mound in a 10 year period. After 10 years 'Blue Mist' has grown larger than we had been told it would... it has grown 5+ feet at the top of the dome by about 7 feet wide. We love all the fothergillas – this is yet another aristocratic genus in the Hamamelidaceae; in our estimation they can do no wrong! In the north plant it full to part sun in fertile and draining soil or woodland conditions. Cutting grown.
