Hare's Tail Cotton Grass

Plant Type:

GRASSES & GRASS-LIKE PLANTS

Eriophorum vaginatum subsp. spissum f. nanaEriophorum vaginatum subsp. spissum f. nana is a very long name for this fantastic dwarf form of Hare’s Tail Cotton Grass. It only grows about 6” tall with rich, dark green, satiny fescue-like foliage. The seedpods are the real eye-catcher rather like billows of cottony smoke emanating from the tops of miniature factory chimneys for a very long time during the growing season. This is a tightly clumping herbaceous grass. Site it in part shade to open, diffused light planted in fertile, moisture-retentive soil. Though the USDA hardiness is listed as far south as zone 8 we think that Hare's Tail Cotton Grass might languish in southern heat. Established pot grown plant from division.
