Zingiber mioga 'Dancing Crane'
Japanese Woodland Ginger
Plant Type:
SHADE PERENNIALSZingiber mioga 'Dancing Crane' (aka 'Nakafu') - Gorgeous white and green variegated foliage in about a 50-50 split on this selection of Japanese Woodland Ginger. The white sets up on each leaf like broad brush strokes, a wide paint brush making a single stroke from the central vein to the margin. Each leaf is like a showy feather. Considering how the leaves set up on stems it appears that the cranes must be dancing in a mosh pit! 'Dancing Crane' will be amazing where it can be grown outdoors spreading quickly into an attention demanding patch. Also, 'Dancing Crane' will be beautiful in a large pot - I keep having visions of a glorious pot of it among other plants in the conservatory at Tower Hill Botanic Garden. Late season flowers just above the soil line are pastel yellow and delicate. Containerized and raised they will be better appreciated. New shoots and late flowers are edible. The species originates in China and Japan but 'Nakafu' comes to us from the amazing collection at Gotemba Nursery in Japan. Morning sun to open shade in fertile, moisture-retentive soil. Established potted Ginger from division.
