Lonicera reticulata 'Kintzley's Ghost'

Grape Honeysuckle

Plant Type:

VINES

Lonicera reticulata 'Kintzley's Ghost' (ex: Louis Raymond) - This heirloom twiner has been quietly persistent for gardeners in the know. Light yellow frills of clustered florets set upon a saucer of glaucous silver-gray beginning late spring, June in the northeast. Individually one is beautiful; en masse they are astonishing. The flowers continue for weeks. The grand silver saucer bracts last for months long after the flowers have passed. The remaining foliage is gray to gray-green but the flowering bracts retain the silver. Louis Raymond shared with me that this was one of the most remarked upon plants on garden tours at his exceptional secret garden which is lost to the annals of garden lore (really sad emoji here.) Average to fertile, draining soil in mostly to fully sunny exposure. The heirloom association becomes clear when one understands that this vine was introduced in the 1880's from Iowa State University under the auspices of William Kintzley. Established potted twining vine from cutting.
