Filipendula palmata 'Variegata' (ex: Louis Raymond) - The Variegated Siberian Filipendula displays matte-finished palmate green leaves resembling those of Sugar Maple with each leaf finely-edged in white. They are beautiful and overlapping in a colony create a solid foliage mound. Innumerable buds are pinkish on irregular panicles held above the foliage on wiry stems. These open to multitudes of tiny white flowers with a faint pink flush like a severely windswept astilbe in appearance - think wispy cumulus clouds meet vertical stems rising from the garden floor. Flowers bear a pleasant, sweet scent. Site in fertile soil that holds moisture between rains. Morning sun and afternoon shade to dappled shade will please this very handsome underutilized perennial.
