Poet's Laurel
Plant Type:
BROADLEAF EVERGREEN SHRUBSDanae racemosa - Full and Bushy. The Poet's Laurel or Alexandrian Laurel is a prized broad leaf evergreen plant where it can be grown outdoors. It can otherwise make a very respectable potted plant in a cool conservatory or greenhouse. Heavily textured lustrous green leaves adorn arching green stems. The leaves look rather like bay laurel foliage. Greenish yellow flowers are not significant but showy fruits, orange to red-orange grape-sized globes, stud the plant in fall. It's very slow but very easy to grow and tolerant of some abuse... that is, if you abuse your plants. Site in part to fully open shade, deeper shade is possible in more southerly locales. Plant in any decent garden soil. Poet's Laurel is drought tolerant once established. Poet's Laurel is tolerant of urban pollution. Established, pot grown via division or seed - more likely division.
