Cyrtanthus mackenii 'Hobgoblin' – is a lovely, heart warming winter-flowering bulb with as many as ten 3” gently arced tubes extending in a spray-like pattern from each flowering stem. It will make a cherished sunny windowsill bulb with nearly evergreen strap-shaped leaves, a conservatory or alpine house potted citizen or where it can be planted outdoors in the garden it will form a pretty patch. Each flower is a lovely pastel salmon shade. It is very easy to please – fertile moisture retentive but draining mix with lots of sun. It blooms recurrently for us in winter over a long period and is a very good increaser. In a “for-the-hell-of-it” moment I planted some bulbs in the open garden as an experiment here in USDA zone 5b. To my amazement they survived several winters without protection sprouting again in spring until I finally altered the garden and rooted them out! The only hitch is that they didn’t flower; that may come as no big surprise! Established potted blooming-sized bulbs.
