Chrysogonum virginianum 'Pierre' - Golden Star forms a mat of hairy bright green leaves from which deep golden yellow 5-petaled stars erupt en masse for a very long period in spring with sporadic bloom during the remainder of the growing season. Leaves loosely resemble a fuzzy Ajuga. Quick growing it will stabilize an area with relative speed. Good in the rock garden it will also be well-used at the front of the border, as an edging, filler, ground cover under shrubs and trees or on a moist slope. In the north best flowering is achieved in full sun. But in the south this plant is best situated in afternoon shade. Plant in organic soil that retains moisture between rains. Native from New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio south to Louisiana, east to Florida including all states to the eastern seaboard though not found in New Jersey.
