Chrysanthemum 'Cambodian Queen'
Hardy Mum
Plant Type:
SUN PERENNIALSChrysanthemum 'Cambodian Queen' - Very large single pink daisies in great abundance on this very late blooming perennial. Flowers arise en masse in late season, each with a yellow button center about the size of a dime. Attractive deeply cut green leaves gradually form a deciduous ground cover as the plant colonizes an area of the garden. This is a sport of the lovely 'Hillside Sheffield Pink' which also sports especially nice leaves. It's gorgeous and as with all the mums just plain beautiful paired with ornamental grasses or the seed heads of Belamcanda chinensis or a big, fat white-peeled pumpkin or a sleeping black cat or... It's just delightful to have something bloom with such abandon so very late in the growing season that warms the heart and helps the hive. 'Cambodian Queen' grows about 24 inches tall and will gradually colonize an open area in your garden.
We strongly recommend spring planting in colder regions so that the plants will be well-established by the time cold weather arrives. Cut them back to a lower leaf axil by mid-July in the north, earlier farther south; doing so will result in better-branched plants on a more compact habit adorned with even more flowers at season’s end. But if you don’t, regardless, you’ll have multitudes of flowers on longer stems but possibly more decumbent plants. Plant all mums in full to part sun in fertile draining soil. Honeybees love them as this is one of the last flowering perennials to bloom in such abundance in the autumn in New England, along with some of the later asters.
