Bletilla striata – Beautiful spring to early summer violet-purple orchid flowers on the Urn Orchid on strong, wiry stems erupt over the very handsome and bold pleated blades. The foliage remains clean and green throughout the growing season providing excellent aesthetic contrast to other garden compatriots. Site in afternoon shade planted in fertile moisture retaining soil to which organic matter has been added. Once established Bletilla demonstrates some drought tolerance. In the north be certain to plant Bletilla striata at least 4 inches deep. Clumping with moderate increase. An organic mulch will be beneficial. Established pot grown division.
