Ligustrum x ibolium 'Variegata'
Ibolium Privet
Plant Type:
DECIDUOUS SHRUBSLigustrum x ibolium 'Variegata' – With Connecticut roots, so to speak, comes this marvelous, rounded, large-growing hybrid Privet that is underutilized. Its variegated leaves are beautiful in part shade in fertile, draining soil. It makes a gorgeous, dense screen or a most handsome accent in the large garden or as part of a wildlife hedgerow. We have found that larger plants seem to settle better into northern gardens so we recommend very good protective defenses including deep mulch plus stakes and burlap to surround the branches the first couple of winters until the roots stretch and increase its hardiness. It's worth the work. This plant that we have grown for more than 20 years makes very few fruits, none of which have every sprouted in the garden; in that, we believe it to be not invasive. Please hear me on this: for gardeners towards the northern end of its range spring planting is strongly advised. Cutting grown.
