Hemiboea subcapitata

Glossy False Sinningia

Plant Type:

SHADE PERENNIALS

Hemiboea subcapitata - White tubular late spring/summer flowers in abundance on this very hardy Gesneriad, the Glossy False Sinningia. The inner throats of the delicate tubular flowers are honey colored with darker spotting... looks like a good hummingbird candidate. Glossy dark green leaves are bold, quite handsome and of very thick texture. A single leaf on a happy plant may grow as long as 12 inches. The foliage would certainly contrast well to any compound pinnate ferns - I'm thinking Japanese Painted Fern would be especially beautiful. Considering the size of a growing colony a larger growing fern in the background would also be picturesque. In any application Hemiboea subcapitata is a choice perennial. Site in open shade in fertile, organic evenly moist soil. Division or cutting grown.
